B i o g r a p h y

Jose Palacios began his studies in violoncello at the age of twelve in 2002 in Mercedes, Texas under Richard Scaglione.  He completed his Bachelors degree in music performance at the Southern Nazarene University under Valorie Tatge (cello) and Marilyn Rosfeld (piano).  He completed his Masters in Music Performance May of 2015 under Tomasz Zieba, who is associate principal cellist in the Oklahoma City Philharmonic.  He has also participated in master classes under Zuill Bailey, Joshua Roman, and Julie Albers.

Palacios has been teaching cello since 2006. From 2006 to 2008, he worked with middle school cellists and orchestras in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas. Since 2008, he has taught both in Oklahoma City and in the Rio Grande Valley and currently teaches cello at the Oklahoma Conservatory of Music.

A versatile performer, Palacios has participated in several musicals and operas, including the Off-Broadway musical “Next to Normal” with the music theater company, City Rep.  He has also recorded cello in albums by local jazz ensembles, as well as local rock bands in the area.  As an orchestral performer, Palacios has built up a vast repertoire of orchestral music with the University of Texas in Brownsville Symphony Orchestra, Southern Nazarene University Metropolitan Orchestra, Oklahoma City University Symphony Orchestra, the Crossings Community Church Festival Orchestra and Chorus, and the Fort Smith Symphony orchestra..  He is also an active participant in several chamber ensembles.  Palacios has also composed several orchestral works and chamber works, a few of which have been premiered at Southern Nazarene University from 2009 to 2011.
